VANSA WESTERN CAPE Course for Art Collectors
Vansa Western Cape – Cape Town’s portal to the visual arts – is delighted to announce the launch of a part-time course for collectors and art enthusiasts. The course is aimed at nascent collectors to encourage and develop an informed public, uniquely equipped to interact with the contemporary art market. The course will give participants a thorough working knowledge of the South African art world as well as the vocabulary and visual literacy to confidently invest in sector.
Attendees will get a thorough overview of the art market and the entire industry, from conception right through to pursuing and refining a collection. If your focus is investment you will get all the information required to enhance a collection, how to collect astutely, as well as an introduction to local galleries and young, emerging artists, fashions and trends within the field.
With the intention of increasing confidence amongst potential art buyers, lectures will, as much as possible, be related to exhibitions and art events pertinent to the South African condition, maintaining a constant consideration of and reflection on the international paradigm. The Collector's Course will be held on Monday evenings at VANSA, 8 Spin Street, Cape Town, from 17h30- 19h00, commencing 29 August 2011. The course will provide participants with a real, tangible grasp and first-hand knowledge of the contemporary art market, and the intricacies involved in acquiring art.
Lectures will be facilitated by VANSA’s curatorial team and conducted by leading industry specialists.
