VANSA FILM SCREENINGS; The Rocky Horror Picture Show

In keeping with the furor following the proposed Protection of Information Bill and the Media Tribunal, VANSA Western Cape presents a new series of monthly film screenings. Showing films for the coming quarter previously banned in Apartheid South Africa focusing on themes such as politics, gender, sexuality, religion, violence etc. Our first film for this series will be Thursday, 29 September 2011 @ 18.30

Still in limited release 36 years after its premiere, it has the longest-running theatrical release in film history. It gained notoriety as a midnight movie in 1977 when audiences began participating with the film in theatres. Rocky Horror is the first film from a major Hollywood studio to be in the midnight movie market. The motion picture has a large international cul;t following and is one of the best-known and most financially successful films of this genre of all time. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
