'Introducing!!!...' #4 **Imibala Yocansi** BY Jamal Nxedlana
Jamal Nxedlana will be showing a series of photographs, wearable art and installation all falling under the title "Imibala Yocansi" (the colour of sex). The opening is on the 11th May 2011 at VANSA's Spin Space Gallery, 8 Spin Street in Cape Town.
Jamal Nxedlana is a 26 year old visual artist based in Johannesburg-- After completing honors in fashion design at the Durban University of Technology he moved to London where he assisted at the Ethical Fashion Forum, The Super Super and Dazed and Confused. "I have always been interested in the development of a South African aesthetic in music, fashion and art, which is why I moved back to South Africa and settled in Johannesburg – in my opinion Africa is cultural melting pot and the best place for discourse on African art." Jamal is most concerned with visual communication and has been involved in art (wearable art & performance), photography (fashion & documentary), fashion (styling, vintage clothing & journalism) and music (art directing music videos, djing & organizing parties) as a means to communicate his ideas and aesthetics.
