VANSA Western Cape will be streamlining its operations in 2012. Due to unexpected funding cuts and uncertainties, VANSA Western Cape will no longer operate out of its offices in Spin Street, and we are currently exploring more cost effective options for the regional office.

Cape Town based arts journalist, writer and critic, Sean O’ Toole, will present an illustrated Art Talk about the 2011 Venice Biennale and African content in particular, at 6 Spin Street, Cape Town, on Tuesday 22 November at 6.30pm. The Art Talk is the penultimate in a monthly series hosted by the African Arts Institute.

Creators, Context and Contents is the title of an Art Talk on Zimbabwe’s contemporary art offering on 18 October from 6.30pm, the third such talk hosted by the African Arts Institute (AFAI) at 6 Spin Street.

African contemporary art will also feature on the programme of Africa 101, an African arts campus - the first ever such initiative for Cape Town and SA - hosted by AFAI at Artscape from 24 to 29 October 2011.

In keeping with the furor following the proposed Protection of Information Bill and the Media Tribunal, VANSA Western Cape presents a new series of monthly film screenings. Showing films for the coming quarter previously banned in Apartheid South Africa focusing on themes such as politics, gender, sexuality, religion, violence etc. Our first film for this series will be Thursday, 29 September 2011 @ 18.30

Ruth Prowse School of Art will be having another Art in the Garden market! Saturday, October 1· 9:00am - 2:00pm. Saturday, 1 October 2011.

The event will be held at Hoodwinx Creative space – 77 Roodebloem Road, Woodstock – from Saturday 1 October at 2pm until Sunday 2 October at 2pm. The event is planned and organised with lots of passion and few resources. Hoodwinx will provide an awesome space, tables and chairs, gallery space and music. Co/Mix will provide artworks, artists, art supplies and movies.

VANSA WESTERN CAPE presents: a collaborative exhibition by The Open Drawer Projects commencing on Monday, 15th of August 2011. The opening will be on Wednesday, 21 September 2011, 18h00 at VANSA's Spin Street Gallery.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport have an Awards Ceremony to acknowledge , recognise and honour individuals, organisations and institutions that have achieved and contributed in an outstanding manner in the Arts, Culture, Language, Libraries, Heritage, Museums and Archives field and the Minister's Special Award. For the 2011/12 awards ceremony trophies, DCAS is inviting proposals and designs from VANSA artists and designers.

'Influences on contemporary Nigerian visual artists' will be the topic of an Art Talk hosted by the African Arts Institute (AFAI) at 6 Spin Street, Cape Town, on Tuesday 20 September at 6.30pm. This is the second in a series of Art Talks on issues relating to contemporary visual arts from the continent of Africa, presented as part of AFAI’s Learn Africa Love Africa event programme. It will be presented by Kathy Coates, writer, researcher and arts educator at the Iziko South African National Gallery. Ms Coates is also a former lecturer at the Michaelis School of Fine Art.

At the beginning of June, VANSA Western Cape announced the launch of a series of art-film evenings at the >>SPIN STREET GALLERY>. Scheduled for the last Thursday of every month, these evening events provide members with the opportunity to attend screenings of selected art house films and, simultaneously, to engage with fellow artists and art professionals from their region. August's film is Vodka Lemon, on the 28th of July 2011, 18h30 at VANSA's Spin Space.
