Artist Studios

Assemblage is pleased to announce the opening of an artist run centre and artist studios in Newtown, Johannesburg in April 2012.

The Reinhold Cassirer award at the Bag Factory, funded by Nadine Gordimer, offers an emerging South African artist, in the field of drawing or painting, under the age of 35 the opportunity to spend a period of approximately three months at the Bag Factory's studios.

Assemblage is pleased to announce its plans to open an artist run centre and studios in Braamfontein or Newtown, Johannesburg. The Assemblage Studios will be a space run by artists for artists and will offer studio spaces and support facilities for artists.

Sober & Lonely Institute for Contemporary Art is sending out an open call for artists, writers, curators (etc) to participate in a one day residency programme in Johannesburg this Summer. Applicants will have access to the residency house for 24 hours and are encouraged to create an event or artwork during their stay.

OurSpace is a free, prototype, creative community centre. For the month of August, it is open to friends and residents of Maboneng and will facilitate a number of events and projects simultaneously.

Assemblage is currently looking into the possibility of opening artists' studios in Johannesburg. If you are a visual artist based in Johannesburg please take a moment to complete our survey.
