Indonesian Arts and Cultural Scholarship (IACS) Program 2012
The Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (IACS) has been conducted since 2003 and was initially offered to and involved the participation of member countries of the South West Pacific Dialogue (SwPD); this scope has now been extended to include South Africa.
The Scholarship Program is a non-degree program undertaken within 3 months period, starting from 31 March – 13 July 2012. The Participants will be divided into five groups and assigned to five different arts centers (sanggar) located in Makassar South Sulawesi (tentative); Bandung, West Java; Denpasar, Bali; Solo, Central Java; and Surabaya, East Java. The participants will learn the uniqueness of Indonesia traditional arts and cultures in each assigned location such as traditional dancing, traditional language, traditional instruments, excursions, extra-curricular activities, and field study. In addition, the participant will also learn Bahasa Indonesia (national language).
The scholarship covers tuition fee (including extra-curricular activities), a round trip economy class ticket, accommodation (board and lodging), health insurance, and monthly allowance Rp 1.500.000 (R1200). The scholarship program requires candidates preferably between 21 to 30 years old with at least a high school diploma, they should possess a high level of interest in and talent for the arts, (arts students or those with an academic history on Indonesian culture are encouraged to apply), and should be healthy.
The scholarship programme will start on the 31st of March 2012. However, the applicants must submit the completed scholarship application forms along with the copy of high school diploma or certificate, proof of good health condition (statement from hospital or doctor), a copy of valid passport with validity period at least two years, 3 (three) ID photos, recommendation letter, and a personal statement to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Pretoria by not later than 13 February 2011.
Due to limited space and the vast amount the interest in the programme, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in cooperation with Indonesian embassies and consulate overseas, hold the series of selection process. Taken into considerations are, among others, the participants’ background, gender, and regional representation.
