Darmasiswa Scholarship Program 2012/2013
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia provides the opportunity for the young people of the Republic of South Africa to study various subjects of arts and culture in prestigious Indonesian universities and colleges through the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program academic year 2012 – 2013.
The Darmasiswa Scholarship Program is a non-degree program undertaken within 3 months (summer school program), 6 months or one year at any universities and colleges participating in the program.
For 3 months or Summer School Program, 6 months and 1 year program, participants can choose their preferred subjects such as Islamic Studies in Indonesia, Sustainable Tropical Horticulture, Art & Design, Biodiversity, Computer Technology, Information System. Accounting, Indonesian Language, Culinary, music and traditional music, gamelan (Javanese orchestra). Ethnomusicology, shadow puppetry, dance and traditional dance, craft, painting, art of making batik and photography.
The scholarship covers tuition fees and monthly living cost allowance of Rp. 2.000.000 (about R1920), including books allowance, local transportation, medical fund and other exciting student’s programmes, but excludes airfare.
The scholarship program requires candidates to be under 35 years of ages, have completed secondary education (high school) or its equivalent, be in good health and have a basic knowledge of the arts and culture subject they are applying for.
We encourage young South Africans to grab this golden opportunity and to join more than 7929 alumni of the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program from 80 countries (including South Africa), including 32 South African alumni who have improved their skills and knowledge in arts and culture since the inception of the program in 1974. Currently there are 14 South Africans studying in different universities under the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program for the academic year 2011 – 2012.
The scholarship program will start in June 2012 (Summer School Program) and August 2012 (6 months and 1 year Program). However, the applicants should submit the completed scholarship application forms together with a copy of high school diploma or certificate, proof of good health condition (statement from hospital or doctor), a copy of a valid passport and 5 ID photos to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Pretoria by no later than 10 February 2012.
