The Prix Ars Electronica in 1987 as an interdisciplinary platform for everyone who uses the computer as a medium of universal design into their creative projects at the interface between art, technology and society.
The Prix Ars Electronica, the Ars Electronica , the Ars Electronica Center - Museum of the Future and the Ars Electronica Futurelab , the four pillars of the Ars Electronica Linz GmbH, a specific orientation and long-term continuity unique platform for digital art and media culture.
It is jointly organized by the Ars Electronica Linz GmbH and ORF Upper Austria, in cooperation with the OK Center for Contemporary Art Upper Austria and the Bruckner Haus in Linz. The prizes are awarded annually during the Ars Electronica Festival. The Prix Ars Electronica is one of the most important awards for creativity and pioneering spirit in the digital media sector.
Written out in seven categories, including a youth competition, it is not least due to the participation of internationally recognized artists from over 70 countries, a trend barometer of the current media art.
With 48 939 entries since 1987 and prize money of 117,500 euros a year he is the most valuable prize for computer art in the world. It will be awarded six Golden Nicas, 12 awards and 70 awards and a scholarship as part of [the next idea] Art and Technology Grant voestalpine.

The announcement of the Prix Ars Electronica starts annually in December and runs until March. International juries select the winners in April in each area.
Events at the Prix Ars Electronica festival Ars Electronica
As part of the Ars Electronica Festival in September, and the award ceremony of the Golden Nicas, awards and recognitions at the Ars Electronica Gala .
The winners of the Golden Nicas and Awards are also invited to several days at the Prix Ars Electronica Forum to present their projects.
The Ars Electronica Festival presented annually as one of the main exhibits, the Cyberarts Exhibition . The exhibition shows a selection of winners of the respective projects Prix Ars Electronica. The youth competition "u19-Create Your World" is dedicated for a whole year a special exhibition The Museum of the future.
The winning entries from the "Computer Animation / Film / VFX" are at Ars Electronica Animation Festival of Electronic Theatre Festival presents as his own format.
Part of the festival Ars Electronica Night winners present their category of "Digital Musics & Sound Art" in the form of specially designed concerts .
