by Audrey Anderson last modified 2010-03-15 10:37

A call for applications for a curatorial workshop convened by the Townhouse gallery/project space in Cairo, Egypt, and targeted at individuals who have started or wish to embark in a career in contemporary art—as artists, curators, writers, critics or arts managers. The workshop will take place on April 16-17 (Friday and Saturday) and will be led by curator and critic Eva Scharrer.

Eva Scharrer is an art historian (MA), curator and critic. As a freelancer, she has curated exhibitions in Germany and Switzerland, and has written various catalogue essays on renowned and emerging artists (among others for the short guide of the 4th Berlin Biennial Of Mice and Menand for Art Now Vol. 3 by Taschen). She was a regular contributor to Artforum International and Artforum.com <http://www.artforum.com/> , New York, Modern Painters, New York; Kunst-Bulletin, Zurich; Spike Art, Vienna; Regioartline.org, Freiburg/Basel; and the Basler Zeitung. In 2007 she was co-curator (together with Jonathan Watkins and Mohammed Kazem) of the Sharjah Biennial 8 Still Life. Art, Ecology and the Politics of Change in the UAE. Since April 2008 she is personal and research assistant to Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, the Artistic Director of dOCUMENTA (13) that will open in June 2012 in Kassel, Germany.

During her workshop, Eva Scharrer will share her experience as a freelance curator and critic, with a particular emphasis on her experience as co-curator of the Sharjah Biennial 8 and some of the site-specific projects she realized in Sharjah on that occasion. Participants will also have the opportunity to present and discuss their own project proposals.  Documents to apply:
